The first thing that I want you to do is read the chapter "Foundations of Wealth."

A few years ago I believed that I really had to work hard to make money. I thought that the more I worked, the more money I was going to make. But after a while I realized that I was not getting anywhere. I was working like a slave and I was not seeing any satisfactory results. I wondered why I wasn't because I sure was applying the time and the effort.

I realized that I needed to make a change. For months I tried to find that special answer that I needed. I tried different things, but none of them worked. I was lost. Finally, I was ready to give up my dreams and continue living that ordinary life that I was used to living. You know, that wake up, go to work, come home, have dinner, and go to bed sort of life. That kind of life that I am very sure you are used to living. But no! I had to give it one more chance. I could not quit that easily. So, an idea came to my mind. I said to myself: "If I want to be become extremely wealthy, why don't I study people who already are extremely wealthy and interpret what they are doing?" So that is what I did. After a few months, I realized that the majority of the extremely wealthy people did not work that hard. Also, the majority of them not only had enough money to buy another planet, but they also had the time and the freedom to enjoy it. That is what I consider true wealth, and that is exac tly what $ecrets to $uccess is all about. The ability to have free time and be able to do what you choose, when you choose it. I think that is where the majority of the people get confused on the definition of wealth. Wealth is not just money. Wealth is also the ability to spend it the way you choose.

My purpose is to turn you into a "true" wealthy person; I want you to have great amounts of money, and great amounts of free time to enjoy it. Now, the first step to accomplish this is the one that a lot of people do not pay that much attention to, yet it is one of the most important aspects of true wealth. I am talking about the mental aspect of true wealth. Hang on! I now you are tired of listening the same psychology song over and over. Do not worry! The mental aspect of true wealth is actually very simple and easy to apply. It is actually like a list of steps that you have to "get into your mind" before we really get into the "secrets" that I have been talking about so much. Once you know all these steps and are ready to apply them, then you will really be ready to start the journey.

Please! Do not jump this section thinking that you do not need any mental preparation. It is very important! Remember, follow my instructions and you 'could' be sitting on gold in just days.

Do you remember the three "keys" to success that I explained on the web site? If you forgot, the three "keys" to success are:

1. Timing: Being at the right place at the right time.
2. Having Vision: Seeing potential in what is being presented. Having the ability to see success.
3. Taking Action: Going one step further than the rest. Doing instead of saying.

These three "keys" are essential to recognize success, and to make it a part of your life. Now, once you have made the decision to "Take Action," your next task is to follow what I call "The Ten Steps To Success." As I said before, they are very simple, but extremely important if your purpose is to achieve true wealth. Here they go:

1. Create a plan: It is essential to know what you are going to do before you do it. Doesn't it make sense? Yes, it makes a lot of sense, yet so many people every day do things not knowing what they are doing. They start building a house without a firm foundation. If you asked any of the richest personalities in the world how they became so successful, I am very sure that a part of their answer would be that they had an effective plan of action. In other words, they knew everything they had to do to get what they wanted.

But do not worry! I will help you 100% on this! My goal is to teach you everything necessary in order to start getting results after only 30 days from the day you start. By doing what I will soon tell you, you will have the opportunity to start making unbelievable money after only 30 days! By doing what I will soon tell you, you will have the opportunity to start making at least $5,000 a week, week after week for the rest of your life!

2. Set deadlines to accomplish what you plan: Besides creating a plan, it is also very important to set deadlines to accomplish each one of your goals described in your plan. In other words, you should always assign final dates to the different goals that you have and not let anything interfere in the completion of these goals by such dates. This will allow you to avoid a mental "disease" that every human being possesses: Laziness!!! That is right. Laziness is a mental "disease" that affects even the richest man in the world. This is why setting deadlines is so important. It is extremely important that you complete them and accomplish them on time. This will determine your success.

3. Do not waste time: It is important that from this moment on you start accounting for your time. You should consider every day as if it were the last day of your life. Why? Well, if you do this, you would not want to waste any time in things that are not worth spending time on. Do you get my point? Each and every minute of your life should be used in the wisest way possible. Very often I hear people saying that they have no time to do anything other than work and pay the bills. When I hear something like this, I know for sure that they are wasting their time. How do I know this? Very simple; I used to be like them. I used to work 16 hours a day. I did not have any time to do anything other than work, pay my bills, sleep, and have a little family reunion once in a while. Nobody would think that a man working 16 hours a day could be wasting his time. Neither did I. But in reality I was. I was actually wasting 16 hours a day. I was throwing away 16 hours of my life every day. Now I work between 5 to 7 hours a week; the rest of my time is free time. And you know what? I am not wasting any second of it and I am making 300 times the money I was making when I was working 16 hours a day. This is what I mean when I tell you not to waste time.

I am very sure that you are wasting your time. Do not worry; this is the reason why you are reading this book. You will learn how to live a life just like the one I am living. Take my word for it!

4. If you have any contact with negative people, you are going to have to shut them out: There is nothing more frustrating to me than to have a conversation with negative people. They have a negative response to everything I say. Fortunately, I have learned that the best way to deal with them is not to deal with them at all! That is right, and you should do the same. From now on, whenever you notice any negativity in anybody you speak with, get away or simply tell them that you are sorry but you can no longer have any kind of contact with them. It may sound kind of harsh and rude, but believe me, negative people can and will bring you down only by talking to you. Have you ever bought a pair of shoes that you thought were the best, and all of a sudden after some friend of yours tells you that they look really bad, you do not wear them anymore or you feel some kind of shame when you do? This is just a minor example of how negative people can influence you. Imagine what they coul d do if you let them influence you in your financial life. From now on, do not let negative people get in your way to success. Shut them out!



5. Stop listening to people unless they are doing better than you: A long time ago I got this idea of getting involved in the stock market. I did not know anything about it (I still don't know much) and therefore I decided to consult a financial advisor whose number I had found on a newspaper. After we talked for a while, he got me really excited! He said that he knew a way of getting $500,000 with just a $125 investment in stocks, but it would cost $2,000 for him to reveal me that secret. I found that very strange because if he knew the "secret" to make $500,000 with only $125, why would he be working in a old and ugly office, driving a real mess of a car, and wearing really discolored clothes? I mean, it seemed to me like he was going through a lot of financial difficulties. Anyway, I decided to give it a try. I tried several times what he had told me but it did not work at all. A few months later, I went back to his office. As soon as I got there, I found out that he had cl osed it because he had gone broke. He had actually filed bankruptcy! Today, I remember that experience and I admit that it was all my fault. I mean, what was I thinking? His office was terribly abandoned, his car looked like it was ready to be thrown away, and yet he was offering me a secret to make $500,000 with a $125 investment.

From that day on, I promised myself that I was not going to listen to anybody unless they were doing better than I was. And let me tell you something, it has worked wonderfully! This is the reason why I have included this personal lesson as one of "The Ten Steps To Success." From now on, do not listen to anybody unless they are doing better than you! You can get their opinion, you can hear what they are saying, but you cannot let them influence you. On the other hand, if they are doing better than you, then they probably k now a little bit more, they have a little bit better attitude, and they probably have a little more experience.

6. Have fun: Enjoy what you do. The probabilities are that right now you do not enjoy what you are doing to make a living. To me, that is understandable because I do not believe in working for a living; I believe in working for the fun of working. Does that sound crazy? I am sure it does. Let me explain it to you. Years ago I used to work for a living. I hated it of course, but I had to do it otherwise I was not going to have any food on the table. Today, I work for the fun of working. Sure there are other reasons other than fun (reasons like recognition), but to be honest, if it was not for the fun, I would not work at all. I would probably be traveling the world all year long. But no! Even though I do not need to work anymore, I still do it because I have fun doing so. I am very sure that once you stop working for a living you will realize what I am talking about. Of course to be working for the fun of working, you need to be doing something that is fun doing. This is where the "$ecrets 2 $uccess" come in play. You will soon learn that work can actually be fun! Also, before going to the next step, I would like to tell you what I do to have fun in life: I make it a game! It may sound silly, but if you make life a game, you will have fun at it. If you think of life the same way you would think of a tennis match, you will have great fun at it. I guarantee it!

I know that you are used to the hard life, and the long hours of work. This is why this whole idea of having fun may sound nonsense to you. Again, do not worry! Once you start experiencing the easy part of life and the 5 to 7 hours of work per week, you will surely realize what having fun in life is all about.

7. Have a good attitude: A good attitude is worth a billion dollars. Have you ever heard that expression? You should have a good attitude towards anything that you do in life, even towards the things that go wrong and towards your mistakes. Yes, a good attitude even towards your mistakes. I am sure you have been told that you should learn from your mistakes. Have you been told this? Or at least, have you heard this? Well, it is very true. And this is true to anybody in the world. Let me explain something to you. On your way to true wealth, it is very likely that you will make some mistakes. But who doesn't? We all do; we are all human beings; the key is to have a good attitude towards them and to truly learn from them. Personally, I make mistakes everyday, but because of my good attitude, they do not affect me at all. What I try to do is to make a lot more accurate decisions than mistakes. When this happens, I literally feel like I have done everything perfectly even though I have made a few mistakes. This is also what you should do. Once you have this kind of attitude towards life you will notice the change! This is why I urge you to have a good attitude. But do not start tomorrow, or the day after; start RIGHT NOW!



8. Take care of your health: I am sure you realize how important your health is. Without it, having all the money in the world would be worthless because you would not be able to enjoy it. I have heard so many stories of people who work so hard to accumulate money, and once they become wealthy, they die of a heart attack, or cancer, or are condemned to live in a hospital for the rest of their lives. This is not what you want, nor what I want for you. As I said before, true wealth is about having all the money that you could possibly want in a lifetime along with the time to enjoy it. This is why you should take care of yourself. Do healthy activities; exercise; eat healthy food. I know that you probably do not have the time right now to do all these activities, but hopefully soon you will have it. When you do, please take care of yourself. I know that you and I do not know each other personally, but believe me, the last thing that I want to happen to you or anyone in the world is to get harmed. This is why I urge you to take care of your health and the health of your loved ones.

9. Stop thinking job: Most of us are taught since we are kids that the rule in life is to have a job. Most of us go to school, then we go to a university or college, we get a degree, and finally we get a job for the rest of our lives (others simply jump from school straight to a job). Are you one of these people? Probably. Do you think this is the right way to live life? If you say yes, you are Wrong! Life is not about a job. There is no way you are ever going to be truly happy with a job; I do not care how good it is. I am sure of this because you cannot be happy when you are working for someone else; you cannot be happy when you have to get to your office or place of work every day at 8 o'clock in the morning or otherwise you will get fired; you cannot be happy when you have to ask your superior for permission to take a week off. I mean, what kind of life is this? Where is the freedom? Where is the happiness? I have to get you out of this way of thinking and living. Believe me, you will not find true wealth with any kind of job, I do not care what it is. The only way you will ever find true wealth is if you are the owner and judge of your actions, and this is only achieved when you become the owner of your business. Stop! I know what you are thinking. You are probably saying: "I need a lot of money and time to have my own business." Relax! The kind of business that I am talking about is not that kind of business that you are used to. It is actually very different and revolutionary. It is a new concept that you probably have not heard of before. As I have been saying, you will have the opportunity to make at least $5,000 a week, week after week, and you will have the opportunity to accomplish this in just 30 days. But I am not going to get into details right now because I am going to tell and teach you in the upcoming chapters everything you need to know about it. For now, I just want you to stop thinking job! You want to be able to g o where you want when you want to; you want to be able to work wherever and whenever you feel like working; you want to have the freedom to decide what to do for the rest of your life. There is no way you can do all this if you are stuck to a job. I guarantee it. Therefore, from now on: STOP THINKING JOB!



10. Do for others: I decided to leave this "step to success" for last not because it is the least important, but because it is the most important of them all. When I help other people, I feel good about myself. Right after I do something for somebody else (it does not matter what it is) and my help is actually effective, I get a feeling of satisfaction and completion almost the same to that feeling that I get when I solve one of my own problems. It is unbelievable! I am not saying this to look good or to impress you. No! That is not my intention at all. I am telling you this to let you know that in order to be able to have a lot of money and be very wealthy, you do not have to be stingy and self-centered. See, some people believe that to become wealthy you have to keep every dollar that you make. They say that selfish and tight people are the only ones with the capacity to become rich because they only care about themselves and no one else. Well, this might apply to some wealth y people. I am not denying that. But I assure you that a good majority of them are not happy at all. They are probably grouchy and mad about life. I can tell you for sure that they do not know what true wealth is all about. You do not want to be that way, do you? Of course not! You want to do for others. And when I say "do for others" I am not only talking in terms of money or possessions. Doing for others could be as simple as helping your neighbor fix his car, or giving a hand to a friend of yours who is moving to a new apartment. Simple things like these could make a great difference in your life. I assure you that your life will be 10 times better.

Let me remind you of what I told you in the web site was my reason for helping you. Do you remember that I said that my reason for helping you was to get recognition? Well, that is totally true. But recognition is not the only reason. I actually have three more reasons. The first is that I want to help you because, as I said before, I have fun doing so. Ok, let us begin. You already know from what I told you in the previous chapter that a job is not the way to become wealthy. With a job you have no freedom and no time to do the things that you want to do when you want to do them. Also, another important point that I have not talked about yet is that with a job you get paid a salary. And what is a salary? A salary is simply an amount of money that is given to you for your time spent in that particular job. In other words, you get paid by the hour. Now, do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing? If your answer is "a bad thing," you are Right! Of course it is a bad thing. When you get paid by the hour you are limiting your time to a certain amount of money and nothing more. You are basically getting paid for your efforts. You do not want to get paid for your efforts. The idea is to get paid when you are not making any effort! The idea is to get paid when you are on vacation; or when you are sleeping; or simply wh en you are doing nothing but enjoying life. But how do you do this? Well, you have to find a way to use the efforts from other sources rather than yours. I know it is confusing. Do not worry! I am about to explain everything to you. For now, I just want you to understand that a job is not what you are looking for. As I mentioned to you in the previous chapter, the way to achieve true wealth is only possible when you become the owner of your business. What comes to your mind when I say that you have to become the owner of your business? Are you thinking that perhaps I am talking about opening your own restaurant? Or maybe you are thinking that I am trying to get you involved in opening a big clothing store? Is something like this in your mind? You do not want to gamble your financial life and your future.

But what don't you like about owning your own business? I can almost read your mind! You are probably saying: "If I start my own business, it is probably going to be related to selling some kind of product. What am I going to do if this is the case? I hate selling and I have no experience doing it. Besides, I am probably going to have to spend a lot of money to get it started, not to mention all the risk that I am going to be taking if it does not work. No way! I think owning my own business is not for me." Am I right on this one? Probably. That is the way I thought about it when I first start ed. Ok, you already know the method of making money, but this method is literally worthless if you do not have a product or a service to sell. Now, to be honest, a service is not an option if you want to achieve true wealth. But why? Well, even though you could really make a lot of money by offering a service, the reality is that with a service you are again exchanging your time and efforts for money. In other words, you get paid when you give your services. If you stop offering your services, you stop getting paid. No! That is not true wealth. True wealth is only achieved when you offer a product. But what happens with almost any product out there in the world market? Well, most of them simply do not work. Let us see why:

Most of the people who want to start their own business think that they are going to be successful by buying whatever their product is at a wholesale price and selling it at a retail price. Well, let me tell you right now that it is very likely for them to fail. Why? Simply because you cannot achieve true wealth by buying wholesale and selling retail. There is no way! I do not know if you have ever seen a catalog of products where both the wholesale price and the retail price are displayed besides the product. In this type of catalog they would put a wholesale price of $16.95 and a retail price of $29.95. Have you ever seen one of these? I am sure you have because this "technique" of advertising is very popular. Now let me ask you something: if, for example, you started your business right now and you bought your products at a wholesale price of $16.95, do you think that you would be able to achieve any kind of wealth by selling it at $29.95? Of Course not! If you bought your produ ct at $16.95, you would probably have to sell it at least at $169.95 in order to make enough profit to become decently wealthy. This is what is known as margins or mark-ups. Normally a 10-1 mark-up is the minimum that I consider profitable. In other words, 10-1 mark-up = $169.95-$16.95. Now, if you sold this product at $169.95 (its normal retail price is $29.95), do you think you would be in business very long? Probably not! You would be out of business in just days. This is the principal reason why most of the products in the world market simply do not work.

Everyone in the world knows who Bill Gates is, and I am sure you do too. He is the founder of Microsoft and one of the richest men in the world. He is a billionaire! His company Microsoft sells information with unbelievable mark-ups. In fact, his company sells some products for hundreds of dollars that cost almost nothing to make but have a great value. That is how he became rich, mark-ups. The reason why I mention this is because, as Bill Gates demonstrates, the way to become rich is to find a product that has a great value but costs almost nothing! Do you know what kind of product I am talking about? The only product that I know of that has an excellent value and costs next to nothing is INFORMATION! Yes, that is right. Selling information is the best way I have found to become extremely wealthy! With information, the costs are practically nothing once the products are created. You already know the method and the product. What is next? It is now our chance to talk about the most important key to creating true wealth. I am sure you want to know where the magic bullet is. The most important and essential key to wealth is the ability to position. Let us talk about a few well known people out there who have learned to do this. Again, let us talk about Bill Gates, a man who is worth billions of dollars right now. How did he make his money? He learned, he sensed, he saw a way to position himself in front of a huge wave that was coming to society; the wave of computer technology. He realized years ago that computers were going to affect our lives in such a way that if he could find a way to position himself in front of this huge wave, then he would be able to multiply his own efforts a billion times and make him what he is today: a multibillionaire. And that is exactly what he did!

There was an article published in one of the most well-known magazines in The United States of America explaining how Bill Gates was forced to reverse his corporate strategy. When I first saw this article I said to myself "What an amazing story!" I mean, how could anything in the world make a man who is worth billions of dollars change his corporate strategy? The same strategy that made him billions of dollars? Well, let me tell you right now that he was not forced. Bill Gates is an intelligent man; he realized that there is another wave coming to society and this wave is the most powerful and economic wave the world has ever seen: It is called the Internet. Component of Success #4

To me, This is the most exciting of the four components of success. This is what makes this business the greatest way to make huge amounts of money in the world! As you already know, a business that requires you to be present in order to work is not the way to achieve true wealth. If for example you were the owner of a restaurant or any retail store, how do you think you would be able to travel the world any time you felt like it? The answer is you would not be able to. You would have to be there most of the time. In other words, you would be attached to a job. Once again, you want to be able to get paid when you are not making any efforts. But what kind of business would allow you to do this? It is very likely you are thinking right now that the answer to this question is a "home-based business." Is this what you are thinking? If it is, you are about 90% wrong. You are not totally wrong because there are some aspects about home-based businesses that do apply. But in gen eral, The Remote Control Business is not a home-based business. It is much better than that!

I am sure you have heard a lot about home-based businesses. A lot of people are starting to realize that a home-based business is definitely much better than being attached to a job. A home-based business allows you to be your own boss; it lets you dictate your own income and your hours of work. Besides, you do not have to pay any rent or office expenses, you usually do not need employees, and you can work from the comfort of your own home. But what are the downsides? Usually home-based businesses require you to be present in order to work. For example, if your product were a book, you would have to be "home" to receive the orders and mail the product. If you took a vacation and went away for a while, then the money would stop coming in and you would be in trouble! Physical commerce is the business carried out in the physical world or real world. In other words, the business that you see when you go to a shopping mall, or simply when you buy something at the grocery store. The example of the home-based business explained in the previous paragraph is also physical commerce. In the past, this way of doing business was the only one available. Everything was done in the physical world. If you wanted to start your own business, you had to find a place to establish, you had to pay all kinds of licenses and permits, you had in general a large number of expenses in order to get started and in order to be successful. But that was not all. Besides all the expenses, you also had to take care of other a spects of your business like merchandise, inventory, employees, and compensation to name a few. Unfortunately, merchandise and inventory is something that home-based business owners have to take care of. Again, if your product were a book, you would have to have a space to store them. If 2,000 people buy your product, and your profit per product is $100, my friend let me tell you that in this example you made yourself $200,000 (2,000 * $100 = $200,000). Two hundred thousand dollars in two days!!! Do you know what this means? And let me tell you right now that if you think this is just not pos sible and it is to good to be true:

In other words, if you did everything exactly as I told you and it would all work not as desired, then I estimate that you would get about $5,000 a week (of course this is not a guarantee). I tell you this so you realize the magnitude of this business. $5,000 a week is nothing compared to what you can make. When you get started, please do not settle for a certain amount. Go always for more. So many people settle for less in life. Do not do the same yourself. If you start making $20,000 a month, set yourself a goal to double that amount the next month. If you make $200,000 a month, set $400,000 as your goal for the next month. Remember your are learning how to achieve true wealth, and true wealth does not have any limits!

Time for Success

As I said before, The Remote Control Business is totally automated. Once everything is set up, the business takes care of itself (auto-pilot) and your only responsibility is to advertise it by doing what I will soon tell you. Before it is set up, though, there are a number of requirements that you would have to comply with in order to get The Remote Control Business successfully running. And what do I know about you? I know that you do not like requirements. Actually, I am sure that you hate requirements. Do not feel bad. We all do! It is the nature of us human beings. We like results fast. We do not like it when there are a lot of obstacles in the way. For this reason I am going to show you right now the ultimate way to eliminate all of these requirements. By doing what I will soon tell you, you will have the opportunity to get your business running in a matter of days.

I am going to use a problem/solution scheme to explain everything. In other words, I am first going to tell you all of the requirements, obstacles, and problems, and then I will tell you the solution to all of them. So, do not get nervous and frustrated when you read all of these obstacles. Since the beginning of the book I promised that I was going to help you achieve true wealth, and that is exactly what I am going to do. Trust me on this. Remember that I want you to succeed!

Ok, the first thing that I want to talk about is the type of product. As you already know, information is the ultimate product. With information it is very easy to have a 10-1 mark-up, you eliminate the need for shipment and handling costs of your product because your customer can have access to it or can download it automatically and instantly, and ultimately, information is the most wanted and desired product in the world (people are desperate for information!!!). But what kind of information? Well, that is a good question. I have found through the years that most people who get involved in selling this kind of product do not achieve any exceptional success. Why? Simply because they are selling the wrong type of information. There are four conditions that a product has to satisfy in order to be successful. First of all and most importantly, your product has to solve a problem. In these days people have a wide variety of problems, and it is for sure that we all want to solve them. If you can provide a product that offers a solution, I guarantee you that you will be in business. Frankly, the problem with many products that fail is that either they do not solve a problem at all or they solve a problem for a vary narrow audience. Have you ever seen an advertisement selling a book about horses? I have, and I do not think that the people doing this advertisement will ever achieve true wealth selling this kind of information because first of all, they are not offering a solution to a problem, and second their audience is very narrow. How many people are interested in horses? Not too many, right? Do you think this kind of product will ever be effective enough to make the kind of money that I described in the example above ($200,000)? No way! This leads me to the second condition: your product has to have mass appeal. In other words, your product must solve a problem that a lot of people have. If you can solve a problem that at least 85% of th e people in the world have, you will be very close to success. Does it make sense? Of course it does! The more people you can sell your product to, the better! But not all products with mass appeal are successful. Some products, even though they solve a very common problem, are very unsuccessful because they take too long to work. Would you like a product that claims to solve you a problem in two years? Probably not. As I said before, we human beings like results fast. It is our nature! You want a product that gives you results in a week or a month, not years. And this is exactly the third condition: fast results. Let me ask you something; do you like it when I tell you that in The Remote Control Business you 'could' be making thousands of dollars per week after only one month? Of course you do! You want to have money and freedom now. You do not want to wait years to see results (Of course, you cannot lie just to sell your product. If you offer to solve a probl em or to have results in one month, then you better make sure this is true, otherwise you will be out of business very quickly). But what if a product solves a problem, has mass appeal, offers results fast, but it is extremely difficult to put into action or to use? If this is the case, I do not think it will work very well because in these modern days for a product to be completely successful it has to be easy to use or to put into action. And this is exactly the fourth and last condition: easy results. Easy solutions to common problems are terrific. We all want the most for the least amount of effort. But sometimes you have to be careful on how simple your product is. Sometimes what you offer can be so simple and so effective that people do not believe you or your offer. A good example of this is The Remote Control Business. A lot of people have missed this once in a lifetime opportunity because they think that it is too good to be true. This is the reason w hy I tell you so much that things do not have to be complicated in order to work. In summary, a good information product must solve a problem, it must have mass appeal, and it must offer fast and easy results. When you find a product with these four conditions, you have the foundation for a successful offer and ultimately, a successful business.

Ok, now you know what kind of product you need. Your job now would be to find this product (first obstacle). So, How are you going to do this? You have two options. First, you can look for someone else's information product. For example, you could find a book that meets the four conditions that we just talked about. You could buy this book from a manufacturer. But buying the book would not be enough; you would also have to buy the copyrights for the book. Why? Because the book will be in cyber space, and when the book is in cyber space, your customers download it or have access to it automatically after their payment is approved. In other words, you would be reprinting the book every time you made a sale, and to do this, you have to have the rights of copy of the book. But how much would the copyrights of a book be? These rights are usually very expensive. And actually, if the book is very good (and this is what you are looking for), you will not even be able to buy the copy rights of the book at all. Having said all this, I think it would be a wise idea to discard this first option. So, what about the second option? The second option would be to write your own book or information product yourself. Is this hard? You could say that. I mean, you would certainly not be able to start making thousands of dollars in one month. That is for sure. You would have to find a common problem worldwide and then you would write your book explaining the solution using the four conditions described before. But writing the book is not all you would have to do. You would have to do what is called a testing of the market to determine if you are going to have any success with it or not. You would do this before you even write the book. Let me explain this. When you have a product, you do not fit the market to your product, you fit your product to the market. In other words, you have to create your product according to what people want and need. You do not want to force people to buy your product. If you do this, you will more than likely not be successful. You want to sell what the market wants to buy, not what you want the market to buy. To determine this, and to be able to know for sure if your product is actually going to be profitable, you have to test the market. How do you do this? Well, testing the market is simply a trial and error advertising campaign. You try different advertisements and different approaches of your products or product in mind (before you develop your product; in other words, before you write your book) and you try to determine which is the one the market wants the most. The bad news for you about having to test the market is that you would have to spend months and sometimes years doing this before you can determine a winner (another obstacle). Some take less time than others, but testing the market usually takes several months. Let me give you an example. This book that you are reading right now was tested for seve ral months before I wrote it. How did I do this? I hired a very fine staff of professionals to try different approaches, and different presentations. Of course, I knew everything that I was going to write about, but I did not know what was the best way to present it to you. Once the testing campaign was finished, I moved on to write the book. After I wrote it, it was then revised. Once revised, I moved on to test the price (as I said before, this book normally has a retail price of $99.95). Lastly, once I determined the best price according to the market, I launched it and developed a sales campaign. Do you see what it takes to do your own book and be successful with it? It takes a lot (remember, do not worry!).

Now that I mentioned a sales campaign (another obstacle), why don't we talk a little bit about it? First of all, do you know what a sales campaign is? Well, a sales campaign is simply what you do once your product is developed to determine what the best way to sell it is. This process is not hard, but it does require a lot of time and research. You have to find out through trial and error what are the 'hot buttons' of the market. In other words, you have to find out what it is that turns skeptical and indecisive people into ready to buy people and therefore instant cash for you. Finding a successful sales campaign is like finding and hiring all the "little salespeople" that I talked about in the previous chapter. Do you remember this? (If you do not, please go back to the previous chapter and refresh your memory!) However, this process does not work how some people think it does. Some people think that designing a sales campaign is not really important in order to succeed. T hey believe that once they have a product, everything left to do is simply to let people know about it. Well, let me tell you that I have seen large companies advertise their products to millions of people, spending thousands of dollars, and not even getting enough money to pay the cost of their advertisement. Why does this happen? Two reasons; first of all, they were advertising in the physical world, and as I said before, everything in the physical world is very expensive (in cyber space advertising to millions of people is ridiculously inexpensive; you will not believe it!). Second, they did not have any idea of how to sell their products. You could have the best product in the world, but if you do not know how to sell it, you will not make any money. And that is a fact.

Now, if you had tested the market and written your book or information product already, developing your sales campaign would be your next step. You would actually have to spend some time designing your sales campaign (in other words, creating your "little salespeople" that I have talked about so much ) to actually be able to gain success with your product. (Remember that I am talking about true wealth. This is real money, not spare money). But in order to test your sales campaign in cyber space, you have to have a location or a store. Do you remember when we talked about this in the previous chapter? I said that your store in cyber space would be a web site. How would you get a web site? A web site is not hard to get. This is actually the easiest of all of the obstacles. What you would do is that you would open an account with a reliable and fast web server and they would host your web site for you. You would have to register a domain name (a domain name is your address on the Internet. For example, the domain name of the web site where you got this book from is www.secrets2success.com) and then pay all the fees both for the web server and for the domain registration. You would then have to pay a monthly fee in order to keep your web pages running. The downside about openin g an account with a web server is that none of them (at least the ones I know of) sell their services. They lease their services. And what happens when you lease? You basically depend on them. You have to pay their fees every month or otherwise your web page would get suspended. Wouldn't you like to buy this service and forget about it rather than having to pay fees month after month? I would. And it is not even about the money. It is about convenience and ultimately about freedom. Tell me something, if you had plenty of money would you rather finance (or lease) a car instead of buying it? I do not think so. It is the same thing with web servers except that you would not have to have a lot of money. You are looking for a hands-free business. In other words, the fewer requirements you have, the more freedom you will have.

You already know that you need a web site to be able to work in cyber space. Once you have your web site, your next step would be to find a way to copy your advertisement on it. Of course, in order to do this, you would need to have knowledge about the different programming languages available for this purpose (another obstacle). Do you know what I mean? Well, in order to write and format your web site you would need to have some knowledge in programming languages such as HTML or Java to name a few. Now, do you know anything about these? If you do, great! You have eliminated an obstacle. But if you do not, then you would have to hire the services of a web programmer. Are they expensive? They usually are. Good web programmers usually charge per hours of work (some charge per page). In some cases you could find web programmer that agree on pre-setting a total price before they get to work on the site. But the price is not the only thing that you would have to agree with them a bout. You would also have to set deadlines or due dates. Why? Because they usually take forever. My guess is that they have too much work (this is not a fact, though). It is incredible all the time that web programmers take to finish a web site similar to the one you are looking for. So, if you were to hire one, you would have to be very sure that you both agree on a deadline or due date. You could also buy a program like FrontPage that helps you design your web page without you having to know anything about programming. This would be a good solution. However, it does take time to learn how to use these programs and sometimes results are not as good as you would like them to be.

Ok, I want to move on now to talk about a very important subject: the form of payment. This basically resumes to credit cards, checks, and money orders. And thanks to e-commerce and the Internet, you are able to accept credit cards and checks in just seconds and completely hands-free and automatically. This is what is known as real-time validation: your customer enters his or her credit card information or check information, clicks on a button for it to be processed, and in seconds it gets validated or declined. If it gets validated, then your customer is transported to a site where he can access the product or download it. If it gets declined, then your customer receives an error message asking him or her to correct any mistakes that he or she might have made, or to simply use a different credit card or check and try again. This system is totally automated and it works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What is it that you have to do to be able to accept credit cards in your business? Well, here comes another obstacle (again, do not worry!). For you to be able to accept credit cards you have to get a merchant account. The problem is that getting a merchant account for e-commerce is extremely hard. One of the reasons is because of fraud. Banks have had too many bad experiences in the past with fraudulent transaction over the Internet, and they practically have closed their doors to e-commerce unless they are dealing with a very large and well-known corporation or a well established business. Also, applying for a merchant account is just like applying for a very large loan. Why? Because customers have the right to dispute credit card charges for a period of time after the transaction and therefore banks assume a high degree of risk on your behalf.

Now, what is it that you need to be able to process transactions in real time? You would need to get a real-time validation software (another obstacle). How does this work? Well, there are several companies in the market that offer this software. What they do is they connect your existing merchant account to their server. So, every time one of your customers enters his or her credit card information on your order form and clicks on the process button, this information goes to their real-time validation server to be processed. Once the credit card or check is validated (or declined), they transport the results to your site. These companies are usually very reliable. But what are the downsides? Besides charging a fee to get you set up, they also charge a price per transaction. So, every time you make a sale, they keep a portion of it. Usually they also have a minimum charge per month.

Finally, I want to tell you now about a very important aspect in e-commerce. When you do business on the Internet, you have to be extremely careful when it comes to credit cards, checks, and confidential information. In the past a lot of fraudulent transactions have taken place in cyber space. This is the principal reason why a lot of e-commerce businesses have failed. What happens is that if you do not have the security features required in order to guarantee safe transactions, your customer's confidential information (for example, credit card numbers) might get stolen, and stolen information on the Internet means imminent fraud. Remember that the Internet is available worldwide, so if your security features are not good enough, anybody in the World could use any of your customer's confidential information without you knowing anything about it. So, what would you have to do to guarantee safe and secure transactions? Well, first of all you would have to get a secure server (anot her obstacle). A secure server allows you to encrypt your order-taking web page so absolutely nobody, except you and your customer, is allowed to view that information. This is extremely important if you want to be successful in The Remote Control Business. By using secure order forms, the communication from the end user keyboard to the secure server is encrypted and secured by Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. But that is not all you need to do to get rid of fraudulent transactions. You would also need what is called an AVS System (Address Verification System). Finally, you would also have to notify each customer after each transaction (by email) letting them know that his or her credit card (or checking account) will be billed on a certain date. This email takes the place of a receipt and it gives the customer the opportunity to inform you if an order has been placed in error. This procedure, the AVS System, and the secure server (Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Technology) are essential in e-commerce if you want to get rid of fraudulent transactions. In fact, thanks to them it is statistically safer to use your credit card over the Internet than it is to use it in a restaurant or a department store!
